Anniversary Gift Ideas

Consider the year

While there is no requirement to follow it, there are some who adhere to the specified gifts per year. The tradition varies per country but some appreciate having such a guide when planning out their themed anniversary parties. For the most part, people only celebrate big during specified wedding milestones(detailed below). Other times, they just spend intimate moments with one another.

  • 5th wedding anniversary – wooden gifts such as racks, sculptures, carvings, furniture(cabinets/shelves), books
  • 10th wedding anniversary – tin gifts such as art or engraved jewelry, metallic photo frames, tin containers for the kitchen
  • 15th wedding anniversary – crystal gifts such as watches, earrings, crystal photo frames, perfume, candlestick holders, ring holders
  • 20th wedding anniversary – china gifts such as tableware, porcelain vases, teapots

Aside from these traditional gifts, there are also flower and gemstone gifts per year. We’ll cover each anniversary year in detail in future anniversary gift ideas.

Romantic getaway

Nothing celebrates commitment more than an intimate trip with just the 2 of you. A romantic getaway doesn’t need to be extravagant. You could go somewhere local or hit up a new establishment one city over. If your special someone has been eyeing a certain destination and there’s sufficient budget for it, surprising them with a day or overnight trip there would mean the world to them.

Message in a bottle

If you’re going for a romantic gift, why don’t you try this one? This exhumes effort whatever way you look at it despite its simplicity. A handwritten message from the heart is definitely something worth reading and much more prized than material gifts. Additionally, such a gift also has aesthetic appeal and can be used as a decoration around the house. For those who are up for an even bigger challenge, why not do this every year and proudly display your yearly mementos in a display cabinet? The love is sure to reverberate around the whole house.

Homemade gifts

For those with talents, make sure you put them to good use by creating your own gifts for your partner. Whether its woodworking, sewing, painting or dancing, we’re sure you can find ways to surprise them by using your skills. Homemade gifts mean that much more to your partner especially if they are the frugal type and don’t necessarily appreciate needless spending. Besides that, homemade gifts are simply much more appreciated than the ready to buy ones.

Renewal of vows

Weddings are marred with ups and downs in between. Whatever happens in between doesn’t matter so long as you both honor your vows. If you truly appreciate all that you both have been thru and want to commemorate further, a solemn vow renewal ceremony would be apt. Not only will your partner be surprised but they’ll also begin to relive the moments you cherished over the years starting from the original day you both said yes to each other.

Personalized photo album

Yet another way to immortalize your love for one another is by having all those digital moments captured in print. With thousands of sites out there offering one day delivery of photobooks and easy to use interfaces for designing, this shouldn’t take too much of your time to make. Be sure you pick out your favorite moments over the years and include the kids(or pets) you may have. That’ll surely bring a tear to your partner’s eye.

Anniversary frames

If you’re not the type to collect photobooks, another option would be to have some of your most special moments framed. This could be placed on wall-hung frames or desk frames and placed in key locations around the household to remind you both of your unwavering love on a daily basis.

Gift basket

For those with a chuckload of anniversary gift ideas, that’s for the best. Instead of showering your partner with numerous individual gifts, why not make it more presentable in a gift basket? You could combine all your planned gifts such as her favorite snacks, chocolates, wine, jewelry and many more in a nifty basket.

  1. An anniversary sundial is a good idea, it is a clock that tells time using the sun. We have one that sits on the window sill and makes rainbows in the room when the sun shines. It was handmade just for us with a special date line that the time shadow follows on our anniversary day each year, and there is a mark on that line that the shadow touches at the actual moment of our ceremony. We’ve had it for several years and it works great – I don’t remember what it’s called exactly but you can find it online with a search. I think it is one of the best wedding or anniversary gifts that I have ever heard of!
